International Lacrosse Veteran and Championship Coach to Lead League Operations in the Northeast as the ABLL Prepares for Inaugural 2027 Barnstorming Tour Showcase

ORLANDO, FL — The American Box Lacrosse League (ABLL) today announced the appointment of Ron Cogan as its Director of Lacrosse Operations, NE Division. Cogan will play a critical leadership role as the league prepares for its inaugural Barnstorming Tour Showcase, scheduled to begin in January 2027.

Bringing decades of elite playing, coaching, and leadership experience to the ABLL, Cogan will oversee all aspects of the league’s lacrosse operations, starting in the Northeast division, including competition standards, player development, officiating, game administration, and rules implementation. His appointment reinforces the league’s commitment to delivering a first-class competitive experience while establishing a clear developmental pathway for American box lacrosse players and coaches.

“Ron embodies everything the American Box Lacrosse League stands for – competitive excellence, integrity, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to growing the game,” said Steve Donner, Co-Founder and Commissioner of the ABLL. “His experience as an elite player, championship coach, and respected leader throughout the lacrosse community makes him uniquely qualified to lead our lacrosse operations as we build the premier developmental box lacrosse league in the United States.”

An accomplished player on the international stage, Cogan proudly represented the Haudenosaunee Nationals in five World Championships, competing at the 1996 U19 World Championship in Tokyo, Japan, the 1998 Men’s World Championship in Baltimore, the 2002 Men’s World Championship in Perth, Australia, the 2010 Men’s World Championship in Manchester, England, and the 2011 World Indoor Lacrosse Championship in Prague, Czech Republic.

His championship resume reflects success at every level of the game. Cogan captured back-to-back Presidents Cup Championships, serving as Captain of the 2010 Onondaga RedHawks and Assistant Captain of the 2011 St. Regis Braves. During his junior career with the Six Nations Arrows from 1998 through 2000, he helped lead the club to the 1998 Ontario Junior A Championship and a berth in the prestigious Minto Cup in Burnaby, British Columbia. In 2000, he earned the Jack Bionda Award as the Most Valuable Player of the Ontario Junior A All-Star Game.

Professionally, Cogan competed with the Rochester Knighthawks of the National Lacrosse League during the 2009 season and was named the Can-Am Lacrosse League Most Valuable Player that same year.

Following his playing career, Cogan transitioned seamlessly into coaching, leading the Onondaga RedHawks Men’s Team to the 2018 Can-Am League Championship, earning the club a berth in the Presidents Cup tournament in Nanaimo, British Columbia. Throughout his coaching and mentoring career, he has been recognized for developing players, fostering championship cultures, and promoting the traditions of the box game.

“I am honored to join the American Box Lacrosse League and help build something that will have a lasting impact on the future of box lacrosse in the United States,” said Cogan. “The opportunity to help develop American players and coaches while growing the box game at the professional level is incredibly exciting. I look forward to working with our leadership team to create an outstanding competitive environment that prepares athletes for success at the highest levels.”

“Ron’s credibility within the box lacrosse community is second to none,” said George Manias, Co-Founder, President, and Chief Operating Officer of the ABLL. “He has competed and succeeded at every level of the game, from international competition to professional lacrosse and championship coaching. His leadership, knowledge, and passion for player identification and development will be instrumental in establishing the ABLL as the premier destination for American box lacrosse talent. In addition, the ABLL plans to place a major emphasis on including, honoring, and recognizing the indigenous people of our nation as those who created this great game. With Ron’s ties to that community and culture, he is the perfect leader to guide the league accordingly. Ron will truly help this league on and off the floor in making this a true American-based league.”
